Suvarnabhumi International Airport, whose airport code is BKK, also is known as New Bangkok International Airport, and it is one of the two major international airports in Bangkok and the other one is the famous Don Mueang Airport.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport Introduction

Suvarnabhumi International Airport officially started operations in November 2006, providing domestic and international aviation services. The location of the airport is excellent. It is located in Samutakan, 25 kilometers east of downtown Bangkok. It is very convenient to take the Airport Express or rent a car from the airport to downtown Bangkok. Due to its important strategic position, it has become the main hub airport of Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways and Thai Eastern Airlines, and one of the most important air transit points in Southeast Asia.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport has seven floors, the following is the specific layout structure of each floor:

Negative second floor: Airport Express

Negative first floor: Airport Express

First floor: airport management center, medical center and bus station, taxi waiting area

Second floor: Arrival hall, with ATM machine and luggage storage service counter

Third floor: lounge with adjustable sofas and TV, shops, restaurants, security check and service counter

Fourth floor: departure hall, customs security check, airline booth and airport consulting services

Fifth floor: Thai Airways Office and other star airlines

Sixth floor: other airline offices

Seventh Floor: Viewing Floor

Suvarnabhumi International Airport Duty Free Shop

Suvarnabhumi International Airport Duty Free Shop is located on the third floor. There are a wide variety of products for sale. Among them, the most popular ones are big-name cosmetics, red wine and chocolate and local cosmetic skin care goods. The duty-free shop also sells clothes, luggage, Thai tin products and so on. If you purchase in here, you can also enjoy a 7% tax refund.

Transportation

The Suvarnabhumi International Airport provides tourists with the following means of transportation to reach the city: taxis, airport express lines, buses, vans, city shuttle buses, and airport area shuttle buses.

1. Free airport bus

The free bus is specially provided for passengers who need to transfer from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Don Mueang Airport. The pick-up point is between Gate 3 and Gate 4 on the second floor of the terminal building. There will be no stops, and the journey will last about 1 hour (depending on the situation). Please note that you must present your flight ticket from Don Mueang Airport before boarding. The free bus service time is 05: 00-24: 00.

2. Suvarnabhumi International Airport Express

The ticket office of the Airport Express is located on the B floor of the terminal building. The business hours are 06:00 – 24:00. The Airport Express is divided into three types: SA City Line, Makkasan Express Line, and Phaya Thai Express Line. Suvarnabhumi International Airport Light Rail takes 15 baht per station, and up to 45 baht, and it will stop at each station on the way.

3. Taxi

There are two taxi pick-up points: Gate 4 and Gate 7 on the first floor of the terminal. You can see the obvious Public Taxi brand on the first floor of the terminal. You must take the taxi at the designated taxi area. 

Note: you also need to pay the extra airport service fee of 50 baht for the driver. There is a highway service fee of 70 baht if you take the taxi during the daytime to the city. Generally, the normal price from the airport to most parts of downtown Bangkok is around 400 baht.

4. Bus

The bus ticket office is at the airport public transportation center on the first floor of the terminal building. Bus lines are as follows:

Route 550, Suvarnabhumi International Airport-Happy Land, operating hours are 05:00-24:00

Route 553, Suvarnabhumi International Airport-Samut Prakan, operating hours are 05:00-23:00

Route 554, Suvarnabhumi International Airport-Tha Phra Chan route, operating hours are 04:00-22:00

Route 555, high-speed special line, Suvarnabhumi International Airport- Tha Phra Chan route

Route 558, high-speed special line, Suvarnabhumi International Airport-Samedun Pier

5. Van

The van ticket office is at the airport public transportation center on the first floor of the terminal, and the pick-up locations are at gate 1 and 8 on the first floor of the terminal. In general, the van has the following lines:

Route 549, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Minburi route, with 24-hour operation

Route 550, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Happy Land route, operating hours are 05:00-24:00

Route 551, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Victory Monument route, operating hours are 05:00-22:00

Route 552, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Ennon route, operating hours are 05:00-22:00

Route 552A, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to SamutPrakarn route, operating hours are 05:00-22:00

Route 555, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Tha Phra Chan route, operating hours are 08:30-22:00

Route 559, Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Tha Phra Chan highway line, operating hours are 06:00-23:00
