A 6-Day Journey in Beijing I Shared With My Family
I spent 6 days exploring Beijing with my family, and this trip felt like moving through layers of history while still staying connected to everyday life.
From ancient imperial palaces to quiet hutongs, from iconic landmarks to simple street food moments, every day felt full — not rushed, but rich in experiences we shared together.

Day 1 – Local Flavors & First Impressions of the City
We started our journey at Huguo Temple Snacks, where we tried local Beijing street food right away.
It wasn’t just about eating — it was our first real introduction to the city’s rhythm, where tradition and daily life exist side by side.
That first meal set the tone for the rest of the trip.
Day 2 – Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City
The second day brought us into the historical heart of Beijing.
Standing in Tiananmen Square felt vast and open, but walking into the Forbidden City felt like entering another world entirely.
I remember slowing down as we moved through the courtyards — red walls, golden roofs, and layers of history that felt almost overwhelming in scale.
It wasn’t just sightseeing. It felt like walking through time together.
Day 3 – Hutongs, Rickshaws & Local Life
We explored the traditional Hutongs by rickshaw, and this quickly became one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
The narrow alleys, local homes, and everyday life made Beijing feel more personal and real.
We stopped often, observed small details, and simply enjoyed being in the moment rather than rushing through it.
Lunch at Quanjude added a classic touch to the day — Beijing roast duck served in a setting that felt both traditional and celebratory.
Day 4 – Pandas, Palaces & Quiet Gardens
We visited Beijing Zoo, where seeing the pandas brought a lighter and more joyful moment to the journey.
Later, we walked through the Summer Palace, where lakes, bridges, and gardens created a completely different atmosphere — calm, spacious, and reflective.
It felt like the city was giving us space to slow down.
Day 5 – Culture, Art & Local Traditions
This day was more about culture and everyday Beijing life.
We explored Liulichang Street, where traditional art, calligraphy, and antique shops created a slower, more thoughtful pace.
At Yonghe Temple (Lama Temple), the atmosphere shifted again — quiet, spiritual, and deeply peaceful.
Later, at the Temple of Heaven, we unexpectedly joined locals practicing Tai Chi. It wasn’t planned, but it became one of the most natural and memorable interactions of the trip.
Day 6 – The Great Wall of Mutianyu
Our final day was dedicated to one of China’s most iconic landmarks — the Great Wall at Mutianyu.
The climb was steady, and with every step, the view opened wider and wider.
Standing on the wall with my family, surrounded by mountains and history, felt like the perfect ending to our journey.
It was not just about reaching the top — it was about sharing the experience together.
A Family Journey I Will Always Remember
Looking back, this trip wasn’t defined by landmarks alone.
It was defined by shared moments — walking through ancient cities, trying new food together, and experiencing history not as observers, but as a family moving through it side by side.
This was not just a 6-day Beijing itinerary.
It was a journey I shared with my family — filled with culture, connection, and memories that will stay with us for a long time.
