A 5-Day Journey in Bali I Shared With My Mother
I took this 5-day trip to Bali with my mother.
She is getting older now, and I wanted this journey to be less about distance and sightseeing, and more about slowing down together — sharing places, time, and simple conversations that don’t often happen in daily life.
Bali turned out to be the right place for that. The rhythm here allowed us to move gently, without rush.

Ubud – Our First Days of Slowing Down
We began in Ubud, where everything felt calm and grounded.
We walked through Ubud Palace (Puri Saren) together, taking our time rather than rushing from one point to another. At Ubud Market, she stopped often to look at small handmade items, asking questions in her quiet way.
At Tegalalang Rice Terrace, we stood for a long time without saying much. The landscape stretched wide and green in front of us — it felt like a place designed for stillness rather than movement.
The Bali Swing was something I convinced her to try. She laughed more than I expected — a simple moment, but one I will remember clearly.
Ubud wasn’t about sightseeing for us. It was about easing into the journey.
North Bali – Quiet Roads, Temples & Waterfalls
As we moved into northern Bali, the pace became even slower.
At Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, my mother spent a long time just sitting and looking at the lake. The reflection of the temple on the water felt almost still enough to pause time.
At Handara Gate, we took photos, but also just stood there for a while. The mountain air was cool, and everything felt open.
The journey to Sekumpul Waterfall required more walking, and I naturally slowed down to match her pace. When we finally reached it, the sound of water filled everything — powerful, but calming at the same time.
I think this was the part of the trip where I realized we weren’t just traveling. We were moving through the experience together, step by step.
Nusa Dua & the Ocean – A Gentle Ending Together
The final days brought us to the coast.
From Nusa Dua, we explored Bali’s southern waters. At Kelingking Beach, we didn’t rush to viewpoints or photos — we simply stood and looked at the cliffs and ocean together.
At Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong, we walked slowly, stopping often, letting the scenery dictate the pace rather than the itinerary.
The most memorable moment was snorkeling at Manta Point.
Seeing manta rays move so gracefully under the water was something I will never forget. My mother didn’t go into the water, but she watched from the boat with quiet curiosity — and when I came back up, the first thing she asked was whether it was really as beautiful as it looked.
At Crystal Bay, we finally sat together in silence, watching the sea before heading back.
A Journey I Took With My Mother
Looking back, this trip wasn’t about covering Bali in five days.
It was about slowing down enough to travel at her pace, to notice the small pauses, and to share time that feels increasingly rare in everyday life.
This wasn’t just a Bali itinerary.
It was a journey I took with my mother — quiet, simple, and meaningful in ways I didn’t fully expect before we left.
