Day 1 - Welcome to Kunming!
Upon your arrival in Kunming, your driver will welcome you at your airport’s arrival hall and get you to your hotel in a private vehicle.
One of our pro English-speaking guides shall assist you throughout your trip.
Day 2 - Exploring Kunming's Heritage | Yuantong Temple & Stone Forest Adventure
In the morning, your guide will meet you in the lobby of your centrally located Kunming hotel. You will first be taken to Yuantong Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Kunming, with a history of over 1,200 years. This architectural gem makes the most of its hilltop setting, featuring beautiful gardens, pools, and pavilions. The temple, dedicated to Avalokitesvara, is home to various Buddha sculptures for you to admire.
Then, you’ll take a two-hour drive to the Stone Forest, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. Covering 400 square kilometers, the Stone Forest (Shilin in Chinese) features stunning Karst formations and is divided into three sections: Major Stone Forest, Minor Stone Forest, and Naigu Stone Forest. Shaped over millions of years by natural processes, you'll find a variety of rock formations resembling animals, plants, and even human figures. Lunch at a local restaurant is included.
Day 3 - Exploring Dali's Natural and Cultural Delights | Cangshan Mountain, Gantong Temple, and Old Town Adventure
Enjoy your free time until your guide comes and escort you to the high-speed train station, where you’ll get a 2-hour ride from Kunming to Dali.
Upon your arrival, your personal guide will be ready to welcome you at the arrival hall, and take you to your hotel with a private car and driver. Your guide will help you with luggage and hotel check-in.
You’ll then go on a scenic drive to Cangshan Mountain, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of towering peaks, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls. You’ll also be able to go on a variety of hiking trails that you can choose based on your preferences.
Next, we'll soar above the treetops on the Gantong Temple Ropeway, offering panoramic views of Erhai Lake and the surrounding countryside. You’ll learn more the temple's cultural significance and spiritual practices as you explore its historic halls and sacred shrines.
We'll then venture to the heart of Dali Old Town, and explore its charming labyrinth of cobblestone streets, ancient architecture, and bustling markets as well as historical courtyard homes and cafes.
Day 4 - Journey through Bai Culture and Ancient Heritage | Xizhou Village to Dali Three Pagodas
Our adventure begins with a visit to the enchanting Xizhou Bai Minority's Village, where the timeless traditions and distinctive architecture of the Bai ethnic group come to life. Explore the quaint alleyways and courtyard homes adorned with intricate woodcarvings, colorful murals, and traditional Bai architecture. Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the local community as you learn about their customs, cuisine, and daily way of life.
Next, we'll journey to the iconic Dali Three Pagodas, which date back over a thousand years and stand as a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of ancient builders.
You'll then go on a leisurely bike ride along the shores of Erhai Lake. Feel the gentle breeze on your face as you pedal along the picturesque pathways, soaking in panoramic views of the crystal-clear waters and surrounding mountains. Stop along the way to snap photos, relax on secluded beaches, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this idyllic landscape.
Day 5 - Exploring Lijiang's Natural and Cultural Charms | Black Dragon Pond, Old Town, and Lion Hill Sunset
Today, you’ll be escorted to the train station for a 3-hour high speed train ride to Lijiang. Upon your arrival, your personal guide will be ready to welcome you at the arrival hall, and transport you to your hotel with a private car and driver. Your guide will help you with luggage and hotel check-in.
You’ll get to visit the picturesque Black Dragon Pond Park, a serene oasis known for its crystal-clear waters, lush greenery, and beautiful reflections of the surrounding mountains. You’ll admire the tranquil beauty of the park’s iconic Moon Embracing Pavilion, with the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the distance.
Next, we'll delve into the heart of Lijiang's historic quarter with a tour of Old Town Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient architecture and sprawling cobblestone streets.Wander through the town’s maze-like alleyways lined with traditional Naxi courtyard homes, workshops, and cafes.
As the day draws to a close, you’ll go to Lion Hill Park and climb to its summit. There, you'll enjoy the gorgeous aerial sight of the Old Town at dusk.
Day 6 - Exploring Nature and Culture | Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Baisha Village Tour
Today you’ll venture to the stunning Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a popular destination for sightseeing, mountaineering, skiing, exploration, scientific research, and holidays. Known as a a sanctuary for rare animals and plants, it is also home to Shanzidou peak, a famous landmark important in legends and myths from the local Naxi ethnic minority.
You’ll then head to Baisha Village and visit the stunning Yufeng Temple. This village is quieter and less commercialized than Lijiang, meaning you’ll get a better glimpse into the authentic life and culture of the Naxi people.
You also won’t want to miss the village’s main attraction: the stunning Baisha Murals. Dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, these colorful murals are known for their vivid depiction of various Buddhist, Taoist, and local Naxi cultural themes and stories.
Day 7 - Journey to the Mystical Shangri-La | Tiger Leaping Gorge and Beyond
As you depart from Lijiang in a comfortable private vehicle with your knowledgeable local guide, get ready to be captivated by the breathtaking landscapes and natural wonders ahead.
You’ll get to explore the Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest and most spectacular river canyons in the world. As you walk along the gorge’s edge, you’ll marvel at the gorge’s sheer cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and roaring rapids.
You’ll then head to the Yunnan city aptly named Shangri-La. Nestled in the snow-capped peaks of the Tibetan plateau, it is known for its strong presence of Tibetan culture and architecture. Day 8 - Exploring Tibetan Culture and Natural Beauty | Ganden Sumtseling Monastery and Pudacuo National Park Adventure
Today’s adventure begins at the revered Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, which is also known as the Little Potala Palace. This stunning example of Tibetan Buddhist architecture is the largest monastery in Yunnan Province. Admire its ornate rooftops, intricate carvings, and vibrant murals as your expert guide reveals the rich history and spiritual significance of this sacred site.
