  • Day 1 - arrive Mandalay, Mandalay Hill, Evening Vegetable Market

      Upon arrival in Mandalay, you guide will welcome you and transferr you to your hotel.

      Mandalay is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. It's synonymous with British Colonial rule and romance. The modern Mandalay is a thriving centre of commerce with a bustling city centre and central market.

      who want to hit the ground running, in the late afternoon, walk or drive up Mandalay Hill to explore the hilltop pagodas & temples, and enjoy panoramic views as the sun sets. Or you may wish to soak up the atmosphere at the evening vegetable market before sampling a cold Burmese beer at a local beer station.

  • Day 2 - Mandalay, City Tour, U Bein Bridge at Sunset

      Enjoy a full day tour around the city.  In the morning, firstly, you will visit Zaycho Market, the oldest, largest and most important market in Mandalay, where you can find goods and products from all over Myanmar as well as goods from China, India and Thailand are sold in lots. Then go to visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda at the foot of Mandalay Hill, which comprises of a gilded pagoda, several pavilions, hundreds of shrines housing inscribbed marble slabs with Buddhist teaching, so that it is also called "the world's largest book".  

      Continued to visit the Mahamuni Pagoda. It houses the Mahamuni Buddha image, the most highly revered Buddha image in the country, so you can witness the endless stream of devotees adding gold leaf to the Mahamuni Buddha. Then go to visit the former Royal Palace of Shwenandaw - constructed almost entirely of wood and dating from 1879.

      The remainder of your day is at leisure till a visit to U Bein teak bridge in the late afternoon, built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was the royal capital. An impressive piece of engineering it claims the title of 'world's longest teak bridge' and is still used by the residents of Amarapura and its surrounding villages. Enjoy the stunning sun set over U Bein.

  • Day 3 - Mandalay, Ayeyarwady River Cruise, Mingun

      Drive to Gawen Jetty in the morning, to board the RV Paukan departing at noon. You will enjoy the endless dramatic scenery and witness unforgettable snapshots of life along the Ayeyarwady River during your two nights' cruise to Bagan. A numbers of shore excursions will be arranged for you by the crew, during your journey.   

      In the afternoon, take a walking tour to the Mingun Pagoda Complex, visiting as King Bodawpaya’s unfinished temple and the mighty Mingun Bell, considered to be the world’s largest un-damaged bell.

      Back on board in the evening, and enjoy a delicious dinner in the dining room. Your vessel will moor overnight at a sandbank mid-stream.

  • Day 4 - Ayeyarwady River Cruise, Sagaing, Yandabo Village

      Enjoy another cruising day with stunning scenery. If you like, get up early and enjoy sunrise over Sagaing Hill which can be viewed from the Paukan deck.

      After breakfast, disembark the boat to visit Sagaing, an important religious pilgrimage centre on the Ayeyarwady River resembleing Bagan with elevation. No individual pagoda or monastery stands out as particular must-see, but taken together the whole scene is enthralling.  A highlight is walking the sometimes steep covered stairways that lead past monasteries and nunneries to viewpoints from which you can survey the river and an undulating landscape of emerald hills and stupas.

      Back on board continue cruising downstream and enjoy your lunch.

      In the late afternoon a stop will be made at the village of Yandabo. famous for producing pottery, also boasts historical significance as it was here in 1826 that the Treaty of Yandabo was signed, formally ending the first Anglo-Burmese War.

      Return to the boat and relax before having dinner.

  • Day 5 - Ayeyarwady River Cruise, Bagan

      Enjoy the sunrise over Bagan from the deck of the Paukan and then have an early breakfast.  Disembark at Bagan Aye Yar Jetty at around 10am. Transfer to your hotel.

  • Day 6 - Bagan, Chauk, Salin

      Get up very early, if you prefer, to witness the magnificent sunrise across the temple-strewn plains of Bagan, before returning to their hotel for breakfast.

      After breakfast drive out of Bagan for about an hour, passing the rural villages and fields all the way to the town of Chauk. Well-known for oil and natural gas production, the town has grown from a tiny village to a prosperous regional centre, and you will see ‘nodding donkeys’ and a number of pipelines during your visit. It is a great opportunity to mix with the locals; the vibrant central market is well worth exploring, and the tea shops make for an enjoyable break.

      Next, you will go to the ancient town of Salin, stopping en route at Tanyaung village, well-known for high quality blacksmiths. Located on the eastern Chin Hills, Salin has been an important trading place for hundreds of years. The area is studded with many pagodas, and there is a huge lake near the centre of town covered with thousands of huge lotus flowers.

      Then explore the U Ottama Monastery, where monks once trained novices as resistance fighters against the British during WW2. Nearby is the ornately carved Salay Yoke Sone Monastery, with hundreds of teak pillars supporting the towering roof. Return to Bagan in the late afternoon.

  • Day 7 - Bagan, Nyaung U, Heho, Nyaung Shwe, Inle Lake, In Dein

      Fly to Heho in the morning. Heho sits at an altitude of over 3,000 feet. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and transferred to Nyaung Shwe, set by the beautiful Inle Lake and is the main town in the region. Along the way, you will pass many farmers bringing their crops to the roadside by ox-cart, for collection by wholesalers from as far afield as Yangon or China.  

      After checking in to your hotel, take a the most scenic boat tour on the Inle Lake. With hills and mountains surrounding you in every direction, the water is tranquil and the panorama is simply breath-taking. 

      During the afternoon, you will visit the Pa O minority tribe village of In Dein. Disembark at the central marketplace and follow the old covered path that leads to a 13th century monastery, and the very impressive ruins of over a hundred ancient pagodas, some still well hidden by the lush deep vegetation all around. Upon reaching the main stupa atop a hill, stop to enjoy sensational views of the surrounding mountains and down the valley to Inle Lake in the distance. Return to the lake and transfer back to your resort.

      A charming town, often overlooked en route to one of the lakeside resorts; those that take the time to stay a night or two in Nyaung Shwe are rewarded with a laid back, backpacker-esque atmosphere. There is a thriving local market and easy access to a range of activities including trekking, cycling and vineyard visits. There's an excellent range of local cafes and restaurants, and even a champagne bar if the desire so takes you.

      Early morning transfer to Heho, and fly to Yangon. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you and escort you to the hotel.  

      Free at leisure till a late afternoon visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda to catch the stunning sun set. This pagoda is 2,000 year old temple and it is one of the most significant religious sites in Myanmar.

  • Day 10 - Yangon, Circle Train, Sule Pagoda, Yangon Heritage Trust Walking Tour

      After breakfast, transfer to the bustling streets of India Town, in the very heart of downtown Yangon. Explore the lively morning market where you will have plenty of time to bargain with the vendors before boarding the 'circular raiway' to make short journey slowly trough the city’s various neighbourhoods, to discover the lively and colourful life of the inhabitants. 

      Upon arrival at Hledan, get off the train and continue by car to the nearby Chaukhtatgyi Payato to visit the huge reclining Buddha.  

      After a break for lunch, transfer downtown to the Sule Pagoda. Known as the ‘gathering point’ by the city’s residents, the pagoda is one of the city’s great landmarks, and has also played an important role in contemporary Burmese politics. The legend says it was built during the lifetime of the Buddha,  and it is over 2,600 years old.

      Then take a afternoon walking tour to the Yangon Heritage Trust office.Founded in 2012, the Yangon Heritage Trust is a non-governmental organisation that is focused on the conservation of Yangon’s cultural heritage, including its wonderful architecture, alongside a strategy of sustainable development. The walking tour lasts about 2.5 hours which offers you a different insider's view of Yangon.

    The days of the tour, itself, went very smoothly. Peter was the perfect guide: friendly, knowledgeable, fun and accommodating. This was a very busy and full tour. I was afraid we would be rushed from place to place but we were not. We had time to take in the different experiences.
