Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Welcome To China!

    • Accommodation:

      Shichahai Shadow Art Performance Hotel

    • Meals:

      None
    • Activity:

Arrive in Beijing, meet your local guide in the airport, and transfer to the city centre. Visit to Tiananmen Square, located at the centre of Beijing City, which is one of the largest city squares in the world. It was built in 1417 and was the entrance gate to the Forbidden City. Afterwards, you will enter the Forbidden city, called “Gogong” in Chinese. For almost five hundred years it served as the home of emperors and their households as well as the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government.

From November 2015 our Government has opened several new Museums to the Public. And then we will visit Lama Temple: This Lama Temple was built as a mansion for Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty when he was a prince. In 1744, the temple was converted into a lamasery and the home of larger numbers of monks from Mongolia and Tibet. On the way back we will visit the CCTV Building from outside in Beijing CBD.

The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. And then visit to Hutong on a rickshaw. Promenade near Shichahai (also called Houhai). Because of the narrow lanes, taxis could not enter into Hutong, so rickshaw is one of the most welcomed modes of transportation that bring you all the way to the discovery of old Beijing. Nan Luo Gu Alley was built under the architectural concept of “residential blocks”–with the lane serving as the central line dividing 8 parallel hutongs on each side, hence forming the outlook of a fish bone, or a “Centipede”. Besides, there are many old small shops and a lot of delicious food and snack. In the end we will drive to Beijing Olympic Park (outside).

All things considered I would recommend this trip. The highlights were the trekking on the Great wall and also the trekking at the Longji rice terraces and cycling trip at Yangshuo. It is a good way to introduce China so long as you have a decent level of fitness to make the most of it.

Actually walking on the Great Wall is an incredible experience. You trek on various sections, so every day is different. It's challenging - more so than I expected! The scenery is breathtaking and you get a real sense of the scale of the wall. I loved the 'Spiderman' sections, where you're literally clambering up on your hands and knees, which all adds to the experience.

The China trip was organized to perfection, those employed to make the trip a success in China worked hard and always with individuals interest - a credit to your partners. Walking along the natural sections of the great wall, including the more challenging sections that made me realize the conditions those who both guarded the country from insurgents and overcame the battles to move forward and the conditions they must have survived from.
